Computing

The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

Computing in the National Curriculum – A Guide for Primary School Teachers by CAS NAACE

In September 2023 we began to use the Teach Computing curriculum from Y1 to Y6. These units are built around an innovative progression framework and they have been created by subject experts, using the latest pedagogical research and teacher feedback. We have matched these units with our topics for each half term, and there are often connections with our Maths, Music and Topic teaching. Our Computing Curriculum includes Online Safety which is also part of our PSHE lessons.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, computing features in the various areas of learning and development e.g. as part of Understanding the World. The children have a wide variety of rich experiences which sometimes include using everyday technology. They are also being given the skills they will need to access the Y1 curriculum.
