Welcome to the Year 1 Class page. We hope that you have all had a lovely half term break.

Our topic for the Autumn 2 term is 'Splendid Skies'. This Science / Geography project develops children's knowledge of the weather and seasons. Children will learn about different weather and climates; they will continue to learn about the seven continents, 5 oceans and the equator in relation to hot/cold climates. We will be writing postcards about our favourite story characters.

The Nativity will take place in the last week of term; we have already been busy practising the songs. More information to follow.

All of our learning is linked to books suitable for pupils' age and stage and to encourage reading for pleasure. We concentrate on a book each week; this term we are reading 'After the Fall ', 'Blown Away', 'Up and Down', 'The boy who lost his bumble', Summer' and 'The Little Raindrop'. We will also be focusing on the traditional tale 'Chicken Licken'.

PE this term will be dance linked to our Nativity and will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Please make sure your child comes to school with a P.E kit that is named which will remain at school until the end of the term.

Homework will start in the spring term. However, please continue to listen to your child read their phonic book daily and share the reading for pleasure book. Please also sign the reading record.

Please find attached at the bottom of the page our learning overview for this half-term together with the curriculum overview for the year.

In the event you did not attend the Meet the Teacher meeting, please see the PowerPoint presentation attached below.

Reading: We expect children to read every evening to an adult for about ten minutes every day and parents must sign the reading record. Children will be sent home with a phonic book (which is levelled at their current phonics stage) and a Reading for Pleasure book, which is to be read and shared with parents.

Please keep checking the website and Instagram for notices and to see photographs of the different things we have been up to during the school day!
