Year 1

Mrs Elliott - Class Teacher

Mrs Dacre - Morning General Teaching Assistant

Miss Hicklin - Student Teacher

Mrs Bott - Midday Supervisor

Mrs Shearer - Cover for Class Teacher - Wednesday afternoon.

Welcome to the Year 1 Class page. We hope that you have all had a lovely and relaxing Easter break.

Our topic for the Summer 1 half-term is 'Enchanted Woodland'. This Science project develops children's knowledge of British wildlife and woodland habitats. We will observe and identify different plants and animals. We will continue to learn about the four seasons and the different weather, and we will be writing instructions and a beat the monster tale linked to our class story.

All of our learning is linked to books suitable for pupils' age and stage and to encourage reading for pleasure. We concentrate on a book each week; this term we are reading 'The Grufflao', 'Stick Man', The Oak Tree' and the traditional tales 'Red Riding Hood' and 'Hansel and Gretal.

PE this term will take place on a Wednesday afternoon (Invasion games) and Swimming will take place on a Friday morning, 11am - 12.00. Please make sure your child comes to school with a P.E kit, which will remain in school until the end of the half-term together with their swimming kit on a Friday.

Homework will continue this term and will include Maths and English work (alternated each week) together with letter and number formation. Homework will be sent out each Friday to be returned by the following Thursday.

Please find attached at the bottom of the page our learning overview for this half-term together with the curriculum overview for the year.

In the event you did not attend the Meet the Teacher meeting, please see the PowerPoint presentation attached below.

Reading: We expect children to read every evening to an adult for about ten minutes every day and parents must sign the reading record. Children will be sent home with a phonic book (which is levelled at their current phonics stage) and a Reading for Pleasure book, which is to be read and shared with parents.

Please keep checking the website and Instagram for notices and to see photographs of the different things we have been up to during the school day!
